AESC is looking to add an Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager (EHS) to our team in Bowling Green, KY.

AESC's Tennessee gigafactory in Smyrna, which has been operational since 2012, produces batteries for Nissan. The Kentucky gigafactory in Bowling Green will supply Mercedes-Benz with high-performance battery cell modules. The South Carolina gigafactory in Florence will supply technology-leading battery cells for new electric models produced in BMW Group's Spartanburg plant. About the Role

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization’s EHS programs and initiatives to ensure a safe and compliant work environment. This role involves leading efforts to maintain regulatory compliance, minimize risk, and promote a culture of safety throughout the organization. The EHS Manager will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and enforce safety protocols, conduct regular safety audits and inspections, and provide training to employees on health, safety, and environmental practices. This position also requires monitoring and analyzing EHS performance metrics, preparing reports, and making recommendations to senior leadership. 

Key responsibilities include managing regulatory relationships, developing emergency response plans, conducting risk assessments, and overseeing incident investigations. The EHS Manager will also lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety practices, reduce environmental impact, and promote employee health and well-being. 

What You Will Do 

  • Assist in compliance reviews, general risk assessments and other safety assessments to support Environmental, Health, and Safety management.
  • Maintain relevant EHS logs and documentation.
  • Assist in the compliance of applicable laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate the purchase, proper use, maintenance, and inspection of necessary safety and personal protective equipment
  • Prepare applicable EHS reports as necessary.
  • Provide assistance and advice on EHS issues to make recommendations to facility management.
  • Participate in detailed incident investigations and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Promote incident prevention for the benefit of employees and visitors.
  • Assist in the development and presentation of relevant EHS training and certification programs.
  • Observe EHS regulations, wear all required safety equipment, encourage safe working practices, corrects obvious hazards immediately or report them to the proper personnel.
  • Ability to work with employees and achieve cultural change in the face of potential resistance.
  • Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as required and assigned.
  • Comply with all Company and EHS procedures and policies.
  • Walk the manufacturing floor on a regular basis to establish EHS presence and provide support.
  • Conduct daily and monthly EHS Meetings/Trainings and schedule as needed.
  • Write, implement, and manage EHS Programs, Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform facility EHS inspections.
  • Ability to evaluate PPE and ensure proper use and maintenance of PPE.
  • Have knowledge and enforce compliance of regulatory requirements (i.e. OSHA, CalOSHA, EPA, etc.), including company EHS policies and procedures.
  • Ability to oversee Hazardous Waste Storage area and ensure regulatory agency compliance i.e. labeling, containment, proper disposal, documentation, etc.
  • Assist in emergency response and provide first aid treatment.
  • Oversee Behavior Based / Observation Safety Programs.
  • Help develop Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
  • Follow Fall Protection program, inspect all fall protection equipment and maintain inspection records.
  • Participate/lead Plant Safety Committee.
  • Assist in administering and maintaining Safety compliance programs such as LOTO, Hazard Communication, EAP, Hearing Conservation, PPE, Hot Work, Confined Spaces, Respiratory Protection, BBP, etc.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.

Qualifications

What You Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational, Health & Safety Sciences
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willing to work different shifts and occasional weekends.
  • Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)
  • Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards. (training and awareness will be provided for those who are not familiar with these standards)

What is “Nice to Have”?

  • Minimum of a 5 years’ experience in an Environmental, Health and Safety position.
  • Previous manufacturing industry experience is a plus.
  • Technical writing is a plus.

Occasional domestic and international travel required.
