About the Role
The Quality Engineer is responsible for developing programs and initiating activities to assure suppliers maintain an acceptable quality system. They will monitor supplier quality performance, resolve issues, recommend improvements to enhance departmental operation and prevent supplier quality problems. The Quality Engineer contributes to building brand value and achieving enduring profitable growth.
What You Will Do
- Defines and establishes market-focused quality targets for all assigned products or processing plans. Supports quality target development by generating and analyzing similar part history information (such as customer comments, warranty claim data, field reports and from innovative resources, when required).
- Able to perform standard quality engineering functions such as product compliance and capability, Customer 8D submittal, problem solving fundamentals. Should be able to understand part layout and inspection, APQP activities, Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (PFMEA) understanding and control plan completion. Additionally assist in internal audits, and layered process audits (LPAs).
- Confirms adequate completion of quality assurance plan (including, but not limited to supplier quality system improvement, initial sample inspection report, design and business reviews and vehicle processing center installation trials, ability to submit PPAP packages prior to product launch. Supports engineering and vehicle processor in developing installation quality and inspection standards.
- Identifies product or vehicle processing quality issues in the market, (including, but not limited to monthly warranty review and other established and innovative means, when necessary) investigates and determines need and responsibility for corrective action, initiates corrective action request, develops and issues appropriate field communication and confirms effective resolution.
- Conducts job functions with minimal guidance and follow-up. Leads and delegates various responsibilities, as required, to project core team members or vehicle processor. Outlines and reports on completion status, open issues, action plans, problem analysis (including departmental or core team process issues) and makes recommendations to the core team, manager, quality assurance and core team management, if required, at planned milestones. Consults and supports other engineers in the above.
- Develops and publishes updates to AESC quality standards for customers, including quality system, quality system audit and product approval requirements. Develops supplier base quality system audit program. Supports vehicle processor in developing quality standards and audit programs. Develops, updates and maintains quality assurance departmental work instructions.
- Understands and follows all standards of IATF16949 and VDA 6.3 quality standards.
- Understands and follows all standards of ISO14001 environmental standards.

Work Environment
The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.

What You Need
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business or a related field is required.
- Strong knowledge of IATF16949 quality standards
- A minimum of 1 year of directly related professional-level Engineering experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- At least 1 year of experience in the development of quality processes & documentation supporting a fast-paced manufacturing and production environment is required.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
- Ability to prioritize and pivot daily activities driven by production urgency.
- Working knowledge of MS word, excel, power point and other PC applications to produce non-standard, creative products. Excellent Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills.
What is “Nice to Have”?
- Background in supporting a highly technical automotive-related manufacturing environment is highly desired.
- Background in VDA Core Tools
- Background and experience using Six Sigma methodologies.
- CAPA experience
- MSA methodology background
Travel
Occasional domestic and international travel required.
