Description & Requirements
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Measurement System Engineering Manager to lead the metrology function within our state-of-the-art, highly automated gigafactory. This role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of calibration and measurement systems, both online and offline, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will manage an internal team of metrology technicians and coordinate external calibration contractors, maintaining optimal functionality of all measurement assets across the facility.
Key Responsibilities
Team Leadership & Supervision
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of in-house metrology technicians
- Ensure adequate staffing, training, and performance management
- Foster a culture of precision, accountability, and continuous improvement
Calibration Management
- Develop and implement the calibration strategy for all online and offline measurement systems
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise all calibration activities in collaboration with internal teams and external contractors
- Ensure adherence to national/international metrology standards and internal quality procedures
Measurement System Analysis (MSA)
- Conduct regular MSA studies to assess measurement system capability and reliability
- Provide expert advice on measurement uncertainty, repeatability, and reproducibility
- Drive corrective actions in response to out-of-tolerance or failed calibrations
IT Asset & Documentation Management
- Maintain accurate records of measurement devices and their calibration certificates in asset management systems
- Ensure timely updates and data integrity within metrology IT systems (e.g., CMMS, SAP, or similar)
- Monitor lifecycle management of measurement instruments
Contractor & Supplier Coordination
- Manage relationships and performance of external calibration service providers
- Develop and track KPIs to ensure service quality and compliance
- Negotiate contracts and budgets related to metrology services
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with Production, Maintenance, Quality, and Engineering departments to ensure alignment on metrology needs
- Participate in audits and represent the metrology function in internal and external quality assessments
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Automation, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a metrology or quality-related engineering role in a manufacturing environment, with at least 2 years in a leadership position
- Solid technical understanding of metrology, measurement principles, and calibration methodologies
- Familiarity with Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gage R&R, and statistical quality tools
- Experience managing metrology-related IT systems and asset databases
- Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Fluent in French (mandatory); proficiency in English is a plus
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a highly automated manufacturing or gigafactory environment
- Knowledge of ISO 17025 and other relevant quality standards
- Certification in Metrology, Six Sigma, or Quality Management (e.g., CQE, CCT)
