Job Description

Company Overview

AESC is a global leader in lithium‑ion and LFP battery technology, with a fast-growing footprint across Japan, the UK, France, China, and the USA—soon expanding in Spain with a €1‑billion gigafactory in Extremadura to open by 2026 and create up to 900 direct jobs in phase one. The Spanish facility is designed as the first net‑zero industrial park gigafactory in the country, aligning with AESC’s mission to pioneer sustainable battery manufacturing.

Role Purpose

As a Facility Electrical Engineer, you will serve as the technical representative of the end-user, deeply involved in the full lifecycle management of the factory's infrastructure electrical systems—from design and construction to operation and maintenance. Your role is crucial in ensuring that all electrical systems are safe, reliable, and efficient, providing a solid foundation for 7/24 continuous production.

Key Responsibilities

During the Project Construction Phase:

  • Design Review & Technical Assurance
    • Review detailed designs of facility electrical systems (including but not limited to HV/MV/LV distribution, Solar Power Generation, emergency power, lighting, lightning protection, grounding, and power quality management). Ensure compliance with Spanish REBT regulations, EU standards, project technical specifications, and the special requirements of lithium-ion battery production (e.g., Dry Room environments, explosion protection).
    • Represent the end-user in technical bidding, supplier evaluation, and contract negotiation for key electrical equipment (e.g., transformers, switchgear, generators, UPS, emergency lighting systems).
    • Participate in the technical coordination for the tendering of the 45kV substation, MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) and Hookup packages. Ensure technical specifications in tender documents are clear and complete, and participate in technical clarifications and bid evaluations with potential contractors.
    • Coordinate interfaces between electrical design and other disciplines (process equipment, civil, fire protection, HVAC, automation) to ensure design integrity.
    • Provide electrical cost reduction optimization suggestions for design solutions at various stages, participate in the review of electrical cost reduction optimization efforts, and complete the documentation and evaluation of cost reduction items.
  • Construction Supervision & Quality Control
    • Supervise the quality, progress, safety, and compliance of electrical installation work performed by contractors, ensuring strict adherence to Approved for Construction (AFC) drawings, specifications, and Spanish safety standards.
    • Review method statements and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and witness critical construction activities.
    • Manage the receipt inspection, storage, and pre-installation checks of electrical materials and equipment.
  • Commissioning & Acceptance Management (Core Responsibility)
    • Represent the end-userin leading and deeply participating in the commissioning of all electrical systems, including:
      • Reviewing and approving commissioning plans, procedures, and test protocols.
      • Witnessing and signing off on Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), subsystem commissioning, and integrated system commissioning reports.
      • Organizing and participating in energization plan reviews, simulation exercises, and actual live switching operations.
      • Overseeing specialized tests such as relay protection setting, harmonic analysis, and power quality tests.
    • Lead the end-user acceptance process: Organize and execute functional acceptance based on contracts and technical specifications. Ensure all system performances meet targets, documentation is complete, and sign acceptance certificates.
    • Track issues identified during commissioning and acceptance, driving contractors to implement corrective actions until closure.

During the Project Operation and Maintenance Phase:

  • System Handover & O&M System Development
    • Ensure a smooth handover of electrical systems from the project team to the factory operations and maintenance team.
    • Develop and refine Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), Preventive Maintenance Plans (PPM), and spare parts lists for electrical systems.
    • Establish and maintain a comprehensive technical documentation library (drawings, manuals, test reports, certificates, etc.).
  • Daily Operation, Maintenance & Technical Support
    • Be responsible for the safe, stable operation and routine maintenance of facility electrical systems post-factory launch.
    • Lead the team in executing preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.
    • Act as a technical support expert, providing the dedicated Energy Engineer with necessary data interfaces, system operational logic, and electrical-side professional interpretation for system performance and energy consumption analysis.
    • Provide essential technical feasibility analysis, design review, and implementation support from the electrical system perspective for various facility improvement projects (led by dedicated project engineers), ensuring electrical safety and system compatibility.
    • Manage electrical spare parts inventory and evaluate/maintain supplier service agreements.
    • Attend daily meetings, weekly meetings, monthly meetings organized by the project department, as well as coordination meetings with other disciplines.
  • Team Management & Technical Leadership
    • Train, mentor, and evaluate the O&M technician team to enhance overall technical capability and safety awareness.
    • Be responsible for the electrical design review and construction quality supervision of system modification or expansion projects during the operational phase.
    • Act as the technical authority for factory electrical safety, ensuring all work complies with regulations and company safety standards.

Required Experience & Expertise

  • Education: Electrical or Automation Engineering or related fields.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in electrical engineering for large-scale industrial facilities (preference given to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, semiconductors, data centers, or lithium-ion battery industry). Must possess complete experience covering project construction (including commissioning/acceptance) and subsequent operations & maintenance.
  • Language: Fluency in Spanish (C1 or above) and working proficiency in English (B2 or above).
  • Core Skills:
  • Expertise in the design principles, equipment selection, protection coordination, and short-circuit calculation of MV/HV (up to 45kV) and LV distribution systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience in electrical system commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting.
  • Strong familiarity with emergency power systems, power quality management, and electrical safety management systems.
  • Proficiency with engineering software such as AutoCAD, ETAP/SKM, or equivalents.
  • Understanding of interfaces between SCADA/DCS systems and electrical equipment.

  • Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with electrical systems in lithium-ion battery factories, particularly Dry Rooms or high-grade cleanrooms.
  • Possession of a Spanish high-voltage operation license.
  • Experience managing EPC contractors or major equipment suppliers as an end-user representative.
  • Knowledge of distributed energy resources (PV, energy storage) and smart microgrid systems.
