About the Role

We are seeking a skilled and hands-on Field Service Technician to support the installation and commissioning of utility-scale energy storage systems. This role will oversee on-site activities, including installation verification checks and coordination of commissioning processes, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in dynamic field environments.

What You Will Do 

  • Serve as the on-site representative during equipment installation and commissioning.
  • Perform installation verification checks to ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Coordinate and execute site commissioning activities for energy storage systems, including functional testing and troubleshooting.
  • Interface with project managers, engineering teams, and customer representatives to resolve technical issues promptly.
  • Document installation and commissioning activities, including test results and punch lists.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and regulatory requirements during all field operations.
  • Provide feedback to engineering and product teams on field performance and installation best practices.
  • Support training for customer personnel on system operation and maintenance.


Qualifications

What You Need

  • Associate degree or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–5 years of experience in field service, commissioning, or installation of electrical or energy systems; experience with energy storage systems preferred.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, power electronics, and industrial safety standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and installation manuals.
  • Proficiency with diagnostic tools and commissioning software.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively and work on-site at customer locations.

What is “Nice to Have”?

  • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) and renewable energy technologies.
  • Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, and communication protocols.
  • Knowledge of commissioning procedures for large-scale electrical equipment.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods of time.

  • Required to occasionally lift, push, pull and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally required to lift, push, pull and/or move up to 35 pounds.
  • Ability to lift light objects and use basic hand tools.
  • Capability to stand and walk for extended periods during site activities.
  • Comfort working in outdoor conditions, including heat, cold, and varying weather.
  • Strict adherence to OSHA requirements and site-specific safety protocols.
  • Use of appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) at all times on site.

Work Environment

The work environment is primarily an automated manufacturing plant with a concrete floor and is characterized by some temperature extremes, moderate noise, and forklift traffic. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers.
